[Review] What is Dragonbane?

With news that Free League Publishing are to release Legends of Stormbringer in the near future, I thought it might be worth reviewing the Dragonbane ruleset. However, rather than wandering through this myself, I noticed that Adrian over at Dungeons & Dyslexia has recently uploaded his thoughts on the system and its mechanics. As always, this is a good in-depth look at the game along with some well thought-out opinions into Dragonbane’s strengths and weaknesses.

I look forward to seeing how Richard adapts Dragonbane to better reflect the Young Kingdoms and the struggle between Chaos & Law…

It’ll be interesting for sure. There’s a few sword and sorcery ports for dragonbane out there. I’ve a WIP version I’m working on. Xoth is worth checking out.

Challenges I see are no kin just humans, limited and specific magic, law, chaos and the balance.

But that’s all fairly easy. How to build flavour and create a living Moorcockian world. That’s the challenge. As DB is currently a very classic DND setting agnostic.

In our groups dragonbane is probably the most popular game now. It’s a great system so really optimistic on this one.

I have Dragonebane but have yet to play.
The “Darkwing duck” aspect has been a deal killer so far at our table.
That may be unfair as there appears to be so much more to the game by many accounts and will play eventually.
I did have my sights on the Trudvang version when it KS but may put a in it.
Now Stormbringer is a whole different story and quite possibly an all-in buy.
What we’re curious about is the Woodman games Moorcock material that is supposedly slated to drop concurrently. I’d love to see you provide additional feedback on it a well for comparison between the two.
    Thanks!
